Banana

Banana is a high-value agricultural product and a major fruit in Nepal. With increment of banana’s demand in the present scenario, more farmers are being involved in banana farming commercially. In case of commercial farming, tissue culture plantlets surpass the production of natural plantlets available in the market. Apart from being disease free and genetically pure these plantlets also offer an advantage of uniformity in age.

Thus, in order to increase the banana productivity and output in the market farmers are opting for tissue cultured plantlets. Like in Kailali, the increasing number of farmers have been switching over to tissue cultured banana plants in a bid to increase output and now Chitwan have become attracted towards it too. This will enable farmers to have two ratoons, the new shoots that spring from the plant and ensure uniform harvest. This will help the farmers to fetch better price from the market. Therefore, yield can be raised to around 50 tons per hectare if tissue culture is adopted.
